Lecture Capture Workflow: Panopto, Matrox, BirdDog

Lecture Capture Workflow: Panopto, Matrox, BirdDog

We’re so excited to share a new workflow that includes 2 of our brand-new manufacturers, Panopto and BirdDog, and one of our tried-and-true partners in the video distribution space, Matrox. We geared this specific workflow towards the higher education market segment, and we think that it will make every instructor’s life easier when it comes to recording and distributing lecture content.

Let our experts help you find a solution!

Panopto is the leading CMS video platform for the education market. Panopto has a vast range of features that allow video content to be organized, indexed, and viewable by students in the moment, as well as after it is filmed. By using a remote recorder like the Matrox Maevex 6020, lectures can be easily captured and streamed to Panopto via HDMI inputs. Panopto can accept multiple sources of video at once, and each video source can be switched to by the viewer. The teachers slide deck and main camera are viewable separately so students can focus on whichever they’d like to in the moment. All livestreamed videos are automatically viewable as Video-On-Demand after the fact and can be broken up by chapters and captioned for a complete indexed video solution. Quizzes can be included directly in Panopto, creating more interactivity and engagement for students. Panopto can be integrated into existing LMS systems, and can be scheduled fully, so teachers can focus on their lesson instead of learning new technology.

BirdDog has been in the business of providing quality NDI-enabled cameras and routing units for years. For this workflow, we’ve included their P200 PTZ camera, which will allow maximum visual fidelity, as well as ease of use and flexibility for the instructor using it. The camera will feed into one of the HDMI inputs on the Maevex 6020, and can be controlled by using a simple web interface. Any time the teacher feels they need to pan or zoom the camera, they will have the ability to do so without using a control surface. The P200 features video enhancement options and full color correction, so even in non-optimal environments, the instructor will be able to be seen and understood.

By playing to the strengths of the Matrox Maevex 6020, the BirdDog P200 PTZ Camera, and the Panopto CMS platform, we know that lectures within this pipeline will capture instructor lectures in a way that is more engaging and more simple than other lecture capture workflows. We’re excited to see what our customers do to build upon our base workflow and look forward to helping you in your next classroom enhancement project!

Remote Testing Lab with Vimeo

Remote Testing Lab with Vimeo

We can see that Remote & Hybrid Learning are likely to continue in some form into the future, and we still have some issues to resolve when it comes to student assessment.
Science labs, medical labs, electrical and automotive assessments, and many others, require instructors to be able to see their students perform “lab-style” tasks successfully. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible or practical to have students and teachers in the laboratory or facility at the same time.
Now, as we often do at Exertis Broadcast, we came up with a solution in the form of a video workflow that we’re excited to share with you.

SOLUTION

Remote Testing Lab Workflow

Featured Products:

Epiphan Pearl-2™ brings the pro features and processing power required for the most demanding live events including 4K streaming and recording, live switching, NDI support, and chroma keying.

Lumens VC-A50P PTZ Camera uses H.264 video compression for a highly efficient stream and incorporates 3G-SDI and HDMI ports to deliver video, audio, power, and control over IP.

Yamaha RM-CG Ceiling Array Microphone utilizes four beams to automatically track voices within the room simultaneously, allowing for lively conversations to be picked up and delivered clearly to the far end.

Bluefin V Series Player has proven the value of a light, dedicated player for most situations. Play SD-card based video files with support for push buttons or touchless buttons, or display from compatible devices with included HDMI® connectivity and optional integrated touchscreens

Vimeo Enterprise benefits

Vimeo Enterprise is a full video delivery platform designed to take all of the headache out of video recording and streaming.

Unlike platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo Enterprise removes all ads, suggested videos, and other distractions, leaving only the content you want to show to your students.

When a student walks into the lab, they’ll be greeted with a video explaining what their instructions are and how much time they must complete the task.

If your school is using a Kaltura, Yuja, or Panapto system, you’ll be able to schedule the lab assessments ahead of time, but if not, that’s ok. All the student needs to do is press the streaming button on the LCD display, and they’re ready to go.

The stream will go directly to Vimeo, where the instructor will be able to watch in real-time if they so desire. The student’s voice will be recorded by the Yamaha RM-CG, and Vimeo will automatically transcribe everything that they say while they work through the lab.

Once they’ve completed the lab, they can end the stream by pressing the button on the Epiphan Pearl 2. The transcription and video replays will be ready for the instructor to review not long after the assessment has been completed. Whenever the instructor is ready, both the instructor and the student can go over the student’s work together by watching the replay of their assessment on Vimeo. Vimeo can handle 3 live streams at a time, so you’ll never have to worry about conflicting schedules or videos not getting recorded properly.

This workflow is perfect for colleges and universities, but could easily be scaled to any educational facility that requires students to be able to take lab assessments at times that are convenient to not only themselves, but to their instructors as well.

If any of our new workflow sparks your imagination for how your school could use this technology, don’t hesitate to call us at Exertis Broadcast, we’re here to help.   415-256-2800

How the CatDV MAM can be your next AI employee.

How the CatDV MAM can be your next AI employee.

Logging media content can be a long, arduous task. Sifting through hours of content to tag names and faces before the content is actually needed can also seem like a waste of time and money – until you actually need to find very specific footage. Having a MAM that is AI enabled should be considered your next employee acquisition.

If you think only large production houses and TV stations need to log their footage, then it’s time to consider “hiring” a MAM to be your next media manager to log your footage and always be ready when the next content request comes in.
CatDV MAM

Churches, corporations, universities, and civic entities all create as much content and even more than your local TV station. The footage created by these organizations is just as important and costly to produce, and it needs to be treated just like the pros. As it is, many of these organizations don’t think they have a need for a MAM. They believe that Media Asset Management software is only for professional broadcasters. Most churches, schools, businesses, and local governments don’t have the staff large enough to manage their creative content – much less, take the time to log it for later use. This is why their next “hire” needs to be an AI-enabled MAM such as CatDV.

CatDV from Quantum is a highly scalable Media Asset Management software with direct hooks into AI platforms that can log, transcribe, and tag images found in all your footage without ever needing to take a human off a project and slow your production schedule down. With CatDV’s automation engine, all that is needed is to point CatDV to your footage and let the software manage, transcode, and log it so that producers can produce and not be focused on media management.
